Who This Page Is For

If you are an adult in Massachusetts who suspects you may have ADHD and you want a real psychiatrist to look closely, this page is for you. Many of the people we see were never identified as children. ADHD often goes unrecognized in adults, and especially in women, where it can look more like chronic overwhelm than hyperactivity.

What We Do (and Do Not Do)

Luminous Vitality Behavioral Health provides psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and ongoing ADHD treatment for adults. We do not provide therapy or counseling in-house. When talk therapy would support your care, we coordinate with and refer you to qualified therapists.

A diagnosis cannot be made through a website, a quiz, or an intake form. Any screening references on our site are educational only. Our PHQ-9 and GAD-7 score interpreter can help you reflect before a visit, but it is not diagnostic and is not a substitute for a clinical evaluation.

What the Evaluation Involves

Adult ADHD is diagnosed through a comprehensive clinical interview, not a single questionnaire or a costly multi-hour test battery. During your initial evaluation, Dr. Lee personally reviews:

ADHD frequently co-occurs with anxiety and depression, and these can mask or complicate the picture. That is one reason a careful evaluation matters.

Medication Management

If medication is appropriate, treatment selection follows individualized clinical judgment. There is no predetermined outcome, and not everyone is an appropriate candidate for any one medication. Both stimulant and non-stimulant options may be considered:

To understand the landscape, you can review our ADHD medication options guide and the side-by-side ADHD medication comparison chart.

ADHD medication management is ongoing care, not a one-time script. It involves follow-up visits, monitoring, and adjustment over time. Stimulant medications are controlled substances. Federal and Massachusetts telehealth and controlled-substance rules continue to evolve; whether and how a controlled substance can be prescribed by telehealth, including any requirement for an in-person visit, is determined case by case and discussed during your evaluation. Depending on clinical judgment and applicable rules, this may include arrangements such as a single prescriber and pharmacy and periodic check-ins. For more on the ongoing process, see our overview of ADHD medication management in Massachusetts and our broader online medication management in Massachusetts page.

How Telehealth Works in Massachusetts

Visits happen by secure, HIPAA-compliant video. Dr. Lee is licensed in Massachusetts and works with adults located in the state at the time of the visit. You must be physically located in Massachusetts at the time of each visit. Telepsychiatry suits many adults well, though the psychiatrist determines appropriateness case by case.

Pricing and Private Pay

Luminous Vitality Behavioral Health is a private-pay, out-of-network practice.

Many patients with PPO or EPO plans may be reimbursed for a portion of out-of-network care. We provide superbills (itemized receipts) on request that you can submit to your plan. Reimbursement varies by plan and is not guaranteed. Private pay supports longer visits and continuity with the same psychiatrist over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you private pay, and how does the superbill work?
We are private pay and out-of-network. Many PPO or EPO plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network care; we provide superbills on request to submit to your plan. Reimbursement varies and is not guaranteed.

Can I get an ADHD evaluation and medication through telehealth in Massachusetts?
Yes. Adults located in Massachusetts can complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation by secure video, and ongoing medication management is provided by telehealth where clinically appropriate.

Can a telepsychiatrist prescribe ADHD medication over video in Massachusetts?
Prescribing decisions are made only after a thorough evaluation and reflect individualized clinical judgment. When a controlled substance is involved, prescribing follows the federal and Massachusetts telehealth and controlled-substance rules in effect at the time, which continue to evolve and may include an in-person visit requirement. No specific prescription is promised in advance.

How much does an adult ADHD evaluation cost if I pay out of pocket?
The initial evaluation is $400 and each follow-up is $250. We are a private-pay, out-of-network practice.

I was never diagnosed as a child. Can adults still be evaluated for ADHD?
Yes. Many adults are recognized later in life. A careful clinical interview and history can clarify the picture, including conditions that commonly co-occur such as anxiety and depression.

How is adult ADHD diagnosed, and do I need expensive testing?
Adult ADHD is diagnosed through a comprehensive clinical interview and history, not a required multi-hour test battery. Screening tools may support the process but do not by themselves establish a diagnosis.
